Blaze @ Hooligans - May 02 2012

It was formed by Josh Milan, Kevin Hedge, and Chris Herbert, when Herbert introduced Milan, a member of his church choir, to Hedge, his childhood friend. Ironically, Herbert was the one who left the group in 1991, leaving Milan and Hedge to keep working together.
The group's output consists mainly of house music tracks with heavy gospel soul and afrobeat influences (sometimes referred to as gospel house). When the group started, Herbert was the singer, with Milan playing the piano, and Hedge on production. After Herbert left, both Hedge and Milan started to share production duties, vocals, and playing most of the instruments of the group's tracks and albums. The group achieved notoriety with its remix of Lisa Stansfields "People Hold On" in 1989, after signing with the Motown MCA Records.
Blaze released its debut album, 25 Years Later, in 1990, after which Herbert decided to move to a more R and B-oriented career, while the two remaining members invested in the emerging club culture, opening a nightclub called Shelter. In 1994, the group scored its first big international production success with De-Lacy's "Hideaway," which was later remixed by Deep Dish
Since then, Blaze released three more albums, alongside a few scattered compilations of earlier productions and works and countless singles. The group also began working with other well-known names such as Little Louie Vega, Barbara Tucker, Jody Watley and Full Intention. It is best known to modern audiences by its singles featuring Palmer Brown on vocals, the oft-remixed "My Beat," and the tribute anthem "I Remember House." Blaze's most recent album, released in 2005, is a mix compilation title called Found Love.

Shine - May 05 2012
Locals Tavern in Wilmington NC

Shine is a French band SHINE formed in 2003 when three eclectic musicians brought their different styles together to create a sound as innovative as it is alluring. Seemingly brought together by fate, Songwriter Guillaume Simon met electronic, rock and jazz instrumentalist Laurent Houdard by chance at a jazz club and found a kindred spirit when their talked turned to a shared desire to create something new and explore a Pop sound. They soon joined forces with guitarist/sound engineer Antoine Delecroix, and the three clicked immediately. SHINE produced its first EP, “One Day”, in June 2004, recording in Laurent’s home studio in Paris. The album received airplay in both the U.S. and Europe with hit singles “Ashbury” and “One Day” that seamlessly blend mellow rock with Electronica. The first pressing of the album sold out in a few months. The EP received another boost when acclaimed Producer/DJ Morgan Page remixed “Ashbury”, and the reworking found a place on the hit ABC TV show Ugly Betty.
In early 2008, SHINE’s first full-length album, “The Common Station”, was released. With inspired song writing brought to life by the soulful vocals of Moroccan singer Hanane Laraki, “The Common Station” resonated with audiences and critics worldwide. The album reached the number one slot on Soma FM’s Lush chart in 2009.
Although initially a studio project, SHINE’s commanding live presence in undeniable. Ever since they opened for Sia in London 2004, the band has built a stage identity that feels intimate and visceral, yet honest and accessible. Since then, high-profile audience members Dido and Tricky have passed along their complements of SHINE’s style and sound. Most recently, SHINE has toured with Morcheeba in France and Italy. Paul Godfrey of Morcheeba sent along his personal sentiments to SHINE, saying “Your music is great, wonderful in every way!”
In July 2008, SHINE teamed up with the legendary Terry Reid for a special project, “SHINE featuring Terry Reid”. The project began when Guillaume watched the documentary Glastonbury Fayre and was floored by Terry Reid’s talent. The band knew they had to find a way to work with Terry. A demo of “Mind Dance” convinced Terry to cross the Atlantic. The EP “SHINE featuring Terry Reid” was recorded in two days in June 2009.
“Here are two artists who should be massive in their own right, as a team they are mind blowing” said Tony K of the Winelight Club in the UK, where SHINE and Terry Reid performed live in August. “Mind Dance” was Julian Lennon’s pick of the week on San Francisco’s popular chill-out radio show, Below Zero.
In 2010, SHINE was invited to perform for the first time in the USA at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas and in San Francisco, California.
Members from the live configuration, Laurent, Antoine, Guillaume + Julie Gomel (vocals) and Bendja (drums) have just completed together the new album “Judas and Mary“, available now on all digital platforms. “It’s our best team ever”, Guillaume said. The artists of SHINE are learning from the brilliant talents they have collaborated with and are continuously expanding their own personal style. With the simple and honest goal of creating great music, SHINE is a talent to watch.

The Aggrolites - May 12 2012
Brick House in Wilmington NC

"The group's upbeat, soul-infused reggae attack puts the rock back in rocksteady. Mixing ska, Motown and punk-rock energy with Jamaican rhythm, The Aggrolites tear it up with the intensity of The Clash and the heart of the Caribbean." - Ink Magazine (February 2009)
The Aggrolites are more than a band they are a movement unto themselves. They carry a banner - one created with their own hands. This banner reads, "Dirty Reggae," and represents their signature fusion of reggae, soul, grit and determination. For seven magnificent years, this dirty reggae bunch has rolled from city to city, across the pond and up main street USA. They rally the kids, the parents, the students, the cops, the bosses and the drifters. The people come, they relish in The Aggrolites, the dirty reggae and the joy that comes with it all. The liberating rhythms and catchy grooves demand a return trip.
Out of the Los Angeles school of hard knocks, The Aggrolites have earned a Ph.D in "feel good music." On the road they educate with the thunder and punch of the reggae drums and bass, the ripping, soulful melodies of the organ and guitars, and Jesse Wagner’s voice - a gift from the heavens, a perfectly intact gift from Otis, Sam, Ray and Wilson.
The Aggrolites have a specific way of making music. They don't over think it, they don't obsess over pop culture demands, they walk onto a stage or into a recording studio and let "it" happen - a culmination of inspiration - from the road, from playing along side music legends, and from the energy and motivation of their die hard fans. A new album is due for release in June 2009 and they call it IV. It is a definitive chapter in The Aggrolites journey with 21 tracks; each one a story of their struggle to thrive and their quest to spread soulful music around the globe.
So, when you are in the mood to drop your troubles and kick your baggage to the curb, call on The Aggrolites. Forget yourself and feel the dirty reggae!
The Aggrolites are Jesse Wagner (vocals, lead guitar), Brian Dixon (rhythm guitar), Roger Rivas (organ) and Jeff Roffredo (bass).
They have three full-length albums to their credit -- Dirty Reggae (Axe 2003), The Aggrolites (Hellcat 2006) and Reggae Hit L.A. (Hellcat 2007), featuring the hit "Free Time." "A glorious, surprising treat. Ideal for your next soul shakedown party," raved Peter Relic from Rolling Stone about Reggae Hit L.A.
