Cape Fear Shakespeare on the Green (CFSOTG) is among Wilmington’s most anticipated summer traditions. Since 1993, visitors and residents have enjoyed free productions of the Bard's works in a family atmosphere at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater. Located in the heart of Wilmington on the lake's edge, the stage is surrounded by stately moss-draped cypress trees and well-manicured gardens of Greenfield Park. With 900 seats, the amphitheater is the only one of its kind in Southeastern North Carolina and is among Wilmington’s largest entertainment venues. Most importantly, we are able to offer free admission to the public, staying true to our mission of artistic excellence available to all.
By reaching out to young people and underserved audiences, we keep Shakespeare’s work alive and relevant to contemporary audiences. CFSOTG also remains committed to strengthening its position as the preeminent presenter of Shakespeare in our community. Our vision of a program that offers even greater access to the arts, with an expanded 2012 CFSOTG 20th includes an education initiative for students throughout the city.
In support of our mission, the city of Wilmington, NC signed an official proclamation designating May and June of each year as the Cape Fear Shakespeare on the Green Festival months at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater. Each year, CFSOTG serves nearly 6,000 people, young and old, in Wilmington and visitors from all over the country. We invite you to be a CFSOTG supporter as we enter our nineteenth season!
